Letter from the Editor
This site, CG Weekly (formerly Coolgrrrls.com), is all about City Nightlife, Music & Culture from a female perspective, covering various cities all over the globe. We only cover what we personally enjoy and want to share with our readers. We have no rules or deadlines. We write what we want, when we want. These things make this site unique. You aren’t going to find some boring review of a show that a writer was assigned to cover, or a CD she has to review because it’s her job.
We girls who are involved with this site, are involved because of our love for music and culture in our city of choice. We want you to get a feel of what we experience in our city, or see a music festival or vacation from our own spectator’s perspective.
I can’t tell you how many times I received an email from someone in a foreign country who is coming to San Francisco, and asks me what clubs or bands they should check out while they are in town, or how many people in different cities tell me they went to see a band on tour because of what one of our writers had to say about the band. That is exactly why we do this. We want to get the word out about bands, clubs, artists, writers, and anything that we think the public should know about.
It has been a real pleasure of mine over the years to be in Las Vegas by the pool and have someone come up to me and say, “I know you, you write that column…,” or to meet a fellow female writer from another city and hit it offlike meeting our former NYC and London writers while hanging out at a club in London a few years back, or meeting our Munich writer at a skate competition in LA.
Being involved with Cool Girls actually gave me a reason (and the confidence to meet) some great contributors in music, as well as talented up and comers. The most incredible thing I’ve gotten out of my involvement with Cool Girls, was having the ultimate honor of meeting Joe Strummer of The Clash, who is one of my all time, most revered punk rock musical heroes.
This site opened the door to me attending countless music festivals over the years: South by Southwest in Austin, Viva Las Vegas, LA Shakedown, Las Vegas Grind, Rockabilly Rave USA, Holidays in the Sun, the British Invasion, Warped Tour, and many more.
I can’t wait to continue to read about new girls from new cities, and to meet future contributors who will be joining us on this journey. (To learn more about how to contribute, see our contribute page.) If you know a girl in a city that has a happening scene who likes to go out and can share it with us, send her our way!
Thanks everyone,
