Sanoe Lake, star of "Blue Crush" and the upcoming "Rolling," talked to Coolgrrrls in California. She was signing her new book, the cute & colorful "Surfer Girl: A Guide to the Surfing Life." Sanoe was gracious and seems very bright.

First question -- what's the correct pronunciation of your name, and what does it mean?

Sa-noi. It means 'the mist'.

That's beautiful! Which language is that?

Thank you. It's Hawaiian, but there's foreign influence, because there's no "S" in the Hawaiian alphabet. It's supposed to be 'Kah-noy' with a K, but instead, they put an S instead of a K.

What projects are you working on right now?

The priority of my life right now, which has been a project, has been trying to relax! Trying to stay put for at least 30 days and not get on an airplane. I just finished doing a film called "Rolling" about the whole rave scene in L.A. I've been doing a mixture of book promotions and some Billabong promotions and photo shoots, which took me to Japan. Then I went straight to Jamaica, then to New York, then to New Jersey, then to Florida, then back, and then I went out to Cabo St. Lucas with Gravis Footwear, to do a roundtable there, and then back to New York! So I've been back [in California] for about a week and a half now. It's like a project, because things keep coming up! I tend to be a workaholic, so I really have to fight that within me, because I know my whole summer's gonna be gone and it's my favorite time to just be in California and just do nothing!

I was going to ask, have you been surfing much this summer? Have you had any chance?

Not that much! Since I've been back, I've been going almost every day, and I did surf in Cabo St Lucas. There are no waves in Jamaica. When I was in New York, I went out to the Hamptons. There were no waves when we were there, either! I've been surfing, but not as much as I'd like to be, and it felt so good just to get back in the water, which is why it has been such a project for me to just stay put!

Where's your favorite break in Southern California?

Wave-wise, I love Lowers, but I hate the crowds. And so I found myself down at Black's, in the La Jolla area. It's spread out. Anywhere that's not that crowded.

Do you have any major surf goals in the next few years or are you going to concentrate more on acting?

It's been weird. I'm sort of finding my way right now through that. Surfing has always been a part of my life, but I love acting and I've been going more in that direction. So I'm just going to do both, as long as I possibly can, as long as the two will continue to love me! I'm going to continue to pursue them.

Have you done any other board sports?

I used to skateboard a lot more when I was younger, but I don't anymore. I stopped when I was in high school. I got more into surfing. I've gotten into snowboarding, but no, I'm not a good snowboarder at all. In the snow, I have two left feet!

Have you got anything you want to say to young girls that read this website?

As far as board sports go, if they're interested in getting into it, I say, go for it! It's such a healthy thing to do, it's a stress relief. For me, it grounds me. It makes me feel happy. It makes me enjoy the life I've been blessed with.

Thank you so much for taking the time to talk to us. You rock!
