Diane Renee and I began the site in 1997 with the hopes of giving Women in the Music Scene a chance to be heard, and to share with readers the female perspective in the Music Scenes in their various cities all over the globe. Most of the Girls who have written for Coolgrrrls over the years have been in bands, and all of the Girls share a passion for music and sharing their unique perspectives with readers.
Our Editor 'Alisha Amnesia' began writing the SF @ Nite column in 1999, and became our Editor in 2004. She is a cum laude graduate with a BA in Speech Communications from San Francisco State University, and a Golden Key International Honor Society Member. She is obsessed with Music, and her very favorite moment that resulted from being involved with writing for Coolgrrrls, was meeting Punk Rock Legend, Joe Strummer of The Clash at The Fillmore in 2001.
After our music site was featured in a German skateboard magazine, we started receiving requests for Cool Girls' skateboards. As a result, Cool Girl Decks was founded in 2004 and is a huge success. Not only do we make skateboards targeted specifically for girls, we also have an all-girl skate team who compete in both unisex and girls-only contests.
